Admiring Art: The Backyard Bird Nerd

We had the honor of showcasing Cheryl Johnson's phenomenal artwork at our M4 corporate office during the Victoria Main Street Program's Downtown Art Walk.

On Friday, September 10th, Cheryl Johnson, also known by her artist name, The Backyard Bird Nerd, displayed her pieces throughout our office for guests to admire and purchase. The night was a hit as over 500 Art Walk attendees made their way to our Launch Pad meeting room, which was the perfect space to hold the main exhibit. It was a blast to watch guests chat with Cheryl about her work and end their visit with smiles on their faces and treats in their hands. Cheryl was extremely kind to partner with and donate a portion of her sales to Young Life of Victoria, an organization we at Chick-fil-A Victoria have a huge heart for!

Johnson is a longtime family-friend of Chick-fil-A Victoria. She is the owner of Outburst Advertising, which we go to for all our marketing needs! Johnson began her art adventure in 2016 and has had a wonderful time learning about nature, discovering the incredible beauty all around us, and developing her skills and knowledge as a photographer, artist and author.

Through experimenting with new ways to share her art, Cheryl discovered a unique technique that she now uses to create her mesmerizing prints. She begins by capturing stunning pictures of different animals, mostly birds, in their natural habitats. She then takes a digital effect and uses it to give a watercolor illusion to her photographs. The result: one-of-a-kind canvassed prints (just ask the many guests who took her work home with them!) We also showcased the canvases that decorate the work and group areas of our Chick-fil-A corporate offices, which were a collaborative effort between Chick-fil-A Executive Marketing & Community Relations Director, Marina San Miguel, and Mrs. Johnson. Using Marina's original photos, Cheryl created beautiful custom pieces by applying her watercolor technique. (As seen below.)

Besides being an artist, Cheryl is also the author of six children's nature books, including My Backyard Bird Book. She loves inspiring kids to get off the couch and head outdoors to discover the amazing world of nature! We were lucky enough to have the M4 headquarters be the location where Cheryl debuted her new book during this night as well. It was our pleasure to host and support such a wonderful local talent!
